氷鷹( ひだか) Ice; hawk
海( あま) sea, ocean
十 (る) ten ; topmost ; upmost
Maru's first name is made up of the kanji 海, meaning "ocean," and 十, meaning "ten" or "utmost." The "sea" symbolizes Maru's nature, a mysterious beauty much like the ocean—sometimes calm and serene, other times stormy and unpredictable. Just like the ocean reflects the blue of the sky, it holds untold depths that few truly understand.
Interestingly, Maru grew up by the sea after moving from Kyoto, yet she also fears it, creating a sense of irony in her relationship with it. Her name, however, is more than just a representation of the ocean; it stands for self-control.
Maru is like a penguin—dependent on the sea for survival, but also aware that it harbors dangers. The penguin must cross the sea, even though it is filled with threats, in order to survive. For Maru, the "sea" symbolizes her own fears and challenges, and to truly live, she must confront and overcome these inner depths, mastering herself.
